FAQs
- We considered and analysed traffic count data and queue length data alongside our experts to understand any potential impacts to the journey time for all modes including general traffic.
- Alongside modelling, Design Engineering and Network Performance agreed the 'setbacks' for the bus lane (where the bus lane starts and ends) in order to cause minimal impact to general traffic.
- As part of our post scheme monitoring, we will continue to review and analyse traffic and bus data including traffic count and queue length data, bus journey times and current and future bus demand, looking especially within the AM and PM Peaks as well as weekdays and weekends. This will help us to understand how the implemented scheme is affecting overall road network operations and bus performance.
- We will do before and after bus journey time surveys for all bus routes covered by the proposals. In addition, we will monitor the impact on personal injury collisions and vehicle speeds through before and after surveys.
- We will also continue to liaise with officers in London Borough of Lewisham to collate feedback on the scheme and update them any patterns/trends emerging.
What modelling did you do to understand the impact of the scheme?
How will you monitor the impact of the scheme?
How are you engaging the local community of this scheme?
We will engage with local councillors and local community groups to hear their thoughts on proposals and answer any questions they may have.
We have been engaging with the borough of Lewisham. They have had a chance to review our proposals, our plans to engage with the public and raise any questions they may have.
As we move forward to construction, we will be engaging with the affected residents and businesses nearer the time to share more information about the plans for construction and any temporary traffic management plans that may need to be put into place to facilitate the works.
Who can use a bus lane?
The new bus lanes will be in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and will be available for use by buses, pedal cyclists (including electrically assisted bikes, adapted cycles, and car go bikes), motorcyclists, licensed taxis / Hackney Carriages (including Black Cabs), and non-blue light emergency vehicles.
Please note that private minicabs, such as Uber, will not be permitted to use the bus lanes.
