Baker Street works

Transport for London (TfL) owns and manages several properties in Baker Street as well as operational land, the station and railway tracks.
As you may be aware, we recently undertook investigative works into the state of Baker Street station’s structural underpinnings. During these works, we identified issues that need to be repaired for the long-term safety of the building. To remedy these issues, we have started some strengthening, waterproofing and pavement renewal works along 186 – 236 Baker Street as well as along Marylebone Road and part of Allsop Place.
Our remaining programme of works is detailed below. Due to the nature of these works, timescales may be subject to change.
- 208- 196 Baker Street – October 2023 until January 2024
- 194 - 186 Baker Street and Marylebone Road – October 2023 until December 2023
- 194 - 186 Baker Street and Marylebone Road – December 2023 until March 2024
- 222 Baker Street – August 2023 until December 2023
- 218 - 220 Baker Street – July 2023 until December 2023
This page will continue to be updated with the latest information on these works.
Below are some of the questions that we have already been asked, together with answers. If you have any further questions, please contact us directly at bakerstreetworks@tfl.gov.uk.
Q. How long will these works take?
A. These works are scheduled to continue until March 2024.
Q. How much disruption will there be to traffic and pedestrians?
A. To minimise disruption, we will work along the street closing sections of pavement where critical works are taking place.
Q. During what hours of operation are the works expected to take place?
A. We will be working between 0800 and 1800 Monday to Friday, although there will be some operational instances where we need to work outside these hours.
Q. How will this affect the bus stops?
A. Stop A is currently closed. Stop B is currently open and is situated southbound to Stop A on Baker Street.
Q. How will deliveries be affected?
A. There is a need for a temporary alternative location for the loading bay until December 2023 to enable the continuation of traffic and pedestrian movement on Baker Street. Individual traders are being informed of the plans for delivery during this time.
Q. Are these works really necessary?
A. Yes. We appreciate that the works may appear unsightly or inconvenient, however their completion is critical for the long-term safety of the buildings on Baker Street.
