FAQs
Why are these changes being proposed?
We’ve identified surplus capacity along key corridors such as the A10, A1010, Seven Sisters Road, and Caledonian Road. These proposals aim to simplify the network and better match services to passenger demand, while also responding to stakeholder feedback.
What will happen to route 349?
Route 349 is proposed to be withdrawn as the capacity it provides is not required, with overlapping coverage on other services. Alternative travel options will be available via remaining routes including the restructured routes 259 and 279, with interchange points at key locations.
Will I still be able to travel to Manor House station on route 279?
No. The proposed restructure of route 279 removes its link to Manor House Station. However, extended route 259 will retain all existing connections on route 279 between Manor House and Ponders End. Other passengers may need to use alternative routes or interchange at nearby stops to complete journeys to and from Manor House.
Will I still be able to travel to King’s Cross and Caledonian Road on route 259?
No. The proposed restructure of route 259 means that it would terminate at Holloway, Nag’s Head instead of King’s Cross. Routes 17 and 91 would continue to run on Caledonian Road between Holloway and King’s Cross. Some passengers may need change between route 259 and route 17 or 91 at Holloway to make their journey in future.
How will these changes affect older and disabled passengers?
We’ve completed an initial Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA) to understand how different groups may be affected. To support inclusive access, we’ll provide Easy Read materials, BSL videos, audio formats, and telephone support. We’re also working to ensure same-stop or close interchanges are available.
Will I need to change buses to complete my journey?
In some cases, yes. For example, passengers who previously used route 259 for direct journeys may need to transfer between the revised 259 and route 17 or 91 in future. We’re working to minimise disruption by ensuring convenient interchange points and providing clear travel information.
How were these proposals developed?
The proposals were developed using passenger usage data, operational performance reviews, and feedback from previous consultations. We’ve also considered stakeholder input and have conducted an initial Equality Impact Assessment to understand how different groups may be affected.
Will there be any changes to bus frequencies?
At this stage, the proposals focus on route structure rather than frequency. However, service levels will be reviewed as part of the implementation process to ensure that capacity meets demand, especially on revised routes 259 and 279.
Haven’t I seen a previous consultation on this?
Yes. A similar proposal involving these routes was consulted on in 2022 as part of the Central London Bus Review. At that time, the proposals were not taken forward. However, since then, further analysis has identified ongoing surplus capacity issues. These updated proposals reflect current passenger demand, operational priorities, and stakeholder feedback, and are being re-consulted to ensure transparency and public input.
