Impacts during construction & operation

During construction

For people living close to the sites of the new stations or infrastructure there may be concerns about disruption during construction. For example, there may be increased noise and vibration during construction, and some trees and other vegetation may need to be removed to build new stations or other infrastructure.

Local businesses close to new stations may also have concerns about their operations or reduced access to their premises during the construction period.

During operation

For residents and businesses close to the proposed route and new stations, the change from a lightly used freight route to a frequent passenger rail service may bring concerns about associated changes to factors such as noise, lighting and vibration. There would also be increased numbers of people accessing the local area to use the new stations, by foot, cycle, car or public transport which could lead to potential concern about noise and anti-social behaviour.

We will have more information on potential construction and operation impacts as we develop our proposals at the next stage of design and these will be provided as part of a future consultation. We would seek to reduce and mitigate any impacts which cannot be avoided, so it is important that we hear about concerns about the impacts of the WLO proposals.
