Update on public consultation - Portland Avenue and Dunsmure Road

Between 19 October and 18 December 2018, we held a public consultation on proposals to make changes to the A10 Stamford Hill (part of the Transport for London Road Network - TLRN) at its junctions with Portland Avenue and Dunsmure Road. The proposals were intended to improve bus journey times through the area, as well as make improvements for cyclists and pedestrians.

The proposals included:

  • Making Portland Avenue one-way by removing access from Portland Avenue onto Stamford Hill
  • Introducing a new signalised pedestrian crossing on Stamford Hill, to the south of Dunsmure Road to help people cross more easily
  • Realigning the existing pedestrian crossing to the north of Dunsmure Road
  • Installing a new cycle lane and priority space for cyclists

Work on this project was impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, however, we are now able to publish our consultation report. You can find the report together with the original consultation material in the Documents section of this webpage.

We received 731 responses to the consultation, including 12 from stakeholders and we would like to thank everyone who took part. Our consultation report includes our responses to the issues raised during the consultation.

We have reviewed these proposals, and while we believe that they would have delivered some benefits for bus services and pedestrians and cyclists in the area, we would like to consider alternative plans in the future which we think might provide increased benefits. As such, we have decided not to proceed with the proposals included in this consultation.

We will carry out further engagement with the public and stakeholders in the area before bringing forward any new proposals for the area and will take the feedback we received during this consultation into account.
