Each year, TfL runs Innovation Week, a week in which our staff learn about innovation that is happening in other parts of the business and come up with ideas for addressing challenges across London’s transport network.

This year we are running ‘The Big Shift’, a workshop in which TfL staff will be putting themselves in the shoes of Londoners who drive, to better understand their perspective and motivation when it comes to taking the car instead of the bus, train, or bike. This is to inform new ideas for ways reduce congestion and increase public transport and active travel uptake.

The Mayor of London has set a target for 80 per cent of trips in London to be made by foot, cycle or public transport by 2041 and TfL is working to hit this target. We understand that some journeys need to be made by car, so we want to hear more about the journeys drivers take and why they take them.

We want to hear from people who drive in Barking and Dagenham, in three main target groups:

  • Parents or carers with young children aged 4-11

  • People aged 17-19, who have passed their driving test in the last 12 months

  • People over the age of 65

The Big Shift’ will take place across two half days: Friday 12 June and Monday 22 June. You will be involved in a one-hour workshop covering a range of activity with TfL staff on each of these days, and we will pay you for your time. The first day of the workshop will take place in person in Barking & Dagenham. The second day of the workshop will take place in TfL’s offices. The exact locations will be confirmed soon.

Applying to be involved in this event does not guarantee participation. If the event is oversubscribed, unfortunately not everyone will be able to take part. You need to register on Have Your Say to take part.
