From 10 February to 24 March 2022 we held a public consultation exercise on our proposal to permanently withdraw the Friday and Saturday only overnight services on bus route 145 (referred to as N145 for the purposes of the consultation to avoid confusion with the day service, where we are not proposing any changes).

The N145 service was withdrawn in the spring of 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and continues to be so, however, prior to the pandemic passenger numbers were lower than we expected.
We received 109 responses and would like to thank everyone who took part.

Having carefully considered the feedback received we have decided to proceed with our proposals as set out in the consultation and the N145 service will be permanently withdrawn, enabling us to use our resources more efficiently and provide the right capacity on our bus services where it is most needed.
We keep our day and night bus networks under review and take steps to address changes in demand where necessary.

Our proposal and rationale
We regularly keep the day and night bus networks under review so that we can ensure that we are directing our limited resources to the places and routes where they are most needed. We are proposing to permanently withdraw the night service on route 145 (or N145 for the purposes of this consultation). There are no plans to make any changes to day services on route 145 and these will continue as they do now.
Prior to the start of the coronavirus pandemic, our observations showed that the number of passengers using the night service on route 145 was much lower than we originally predicted, with less than half the numbers of passengers it was intended for. These passenger numbers had remained similar for the previous three years.
The night service on route 145 (referred to for the purposes of this consultation as N145) was introduced in 2016 as a two buses per hour service between the hours of 00:30 and 05:00 on Friday night to Saturday morning and Saturday night to Sunday morning. This was intended to support the Night Tube service on the Central line. The N145 has been suspended as part of our response to the coronavirus pandemic since the spring of 2020.
We would like to hear from bus passengers and local residents so that we can understand any issues that withdrawing the N145 service might cause. You can find a map of the route in the 'Documents' section of the website.
Equality Impact Assessment
We have undertaken an Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA). The EqIA examines what impact (positive or negative) the proposed route change may have on customers with characteristics protected by the Equality Act 2010.
We consider the impacts of bus service change proposals on equality groups throughout the planning process ensuring, where possible, effective mitigations are in place where no viable alternative is available. The EqIA can be found in the ‘Documents’ section.
