What are we doing?

We are going to build a new zebra crossing on Stonecot Hill, outside the James O’Riordan Medical Centre.

You can find out more about what we will be doing below. If you have any questions about the scheme, you can ask them by submitting your question in the section below or email us.

Why are we doing it?

This new zebra crossing will replace the existing uncontrolled crossing which is used by visitors to the James O’Riordan medical centre and those visiting the shops on Stonecot Hill. We are installing the crossing to make the area safer for all pedestrians.

What will the impacts be?

Our transport modelling shows that there would be minimal impact of traffic flow in the area and there will be no impact on parking.

When will we start to build it?

We plan to start building the crossing in spring 2025, although this date may change due to unforeseen circumstances, such as emergency utility works or delays with permit approvals.

Do you have any questions?

This page will be open for questions until 6 January 2025. After that date, this page will be archived but still viewable. It will not be possible to ask new questions.

  • Share This isn’t a question, just a comment. Most people crossing this road in this area do so right opposite Burleigh Road and the bus stop opposite, where there is not currently any crossing. A zebra crossing would be much more beneficial there, to stop people precariously running across the road to catch a bus, which is a more time critical issue than just crossing at the doctors surgery… The crossing at the James O Riordan centre is fine as it is. on Facebook Share This isn’t a question, just a comment. Hi, thank you for your comment.

The location of the crossing was decided following a petition from residents as well as TfL's own assessment of the network here. However, this does not invalidate the potential need for crossings elsewhere on the network nearby. These would be assessed separately in their own right.

  • Share The distance between the crossing at Asda at the junction of Stonecot Hill, Sutton Common Road, Epsom Road, & Tudor Drive, and the next available crossing at the junction of Stonecot Hill / Garth Road is roughly 725 metres. The halfway point between crossings would be around the Wellesley Court junction, which I believe would be a more suitable crossing point. Consideration should be made to have an additional pedestrian crossing between St Cecilia's Church and Emmanuel church if the proposal is granted for outside of the James O-Riordan Medical Centre as the A24 is a busy main road with limited pedestrian crossings. on Facebook Share The distance between the crossing at Asda at the junction of Stonecot Hill, Sutton Common Road, Epsom Road, & Tudor Drive, and the next available crossing at the junction of Stonecot Hill / Garth Road is roughly 725 metres.
