Consultation update 1 December 2021

Between 17 September and 15 October 2021, we held a public consultation on a proposal affecting bus routes 212, 357 and 657 at Hatch Lane, Chingford. You can read more about our proposals below.

After careful consideration, we have decided to proceed with the proposed changes to bus routes 212, 357 and 657 at Hatch Lane, Chingford. Subject to completing road works to install a new bus stop, we would like to introduce this service change in early 2022.

-update ends-

Background

We’re proposing to change bus routes 212, 357 and 657 at Hatch Lane, Chingford.

Currently, these routes are briefly diverted off the A1009 westbound to serve a bus stop on Hatch Lane.

Pre-pandemic figures indicate this stop was used by 600 passengers on weekdays, 330 passengers on Saturdays and 180 passengers on Sundays.

However, the vast majority of passengers pass through this section of Hatch Lane - 1,200 passengers on weekdays, 1,000 passengers on Saturdays and 500 passengers on Sundays.

Our proposals

To make journeys more reliable, direct and quicker, we’re proposing buses continue straight along the A1009 and no longer serve this short section of Hatch Lane.

A new bus stop would be located on the A1009, adjacent to the old one. A new path across the green and pavement level crossing would provide access to the food shop, takeaway, bookmakers and residential properties opposite. The 25m walk would typically take about 30 seconds. The path would be lit at night.

The old bus stop (HS) on Hatch Lane would be removed. Buses would no longer serve this short section of Hatch Lane.

Please see the map in the 'Documents' section for further details.
