Providing new cycle lanes, which would be fully protected from traffic. On some sections, the cycle lanes would be ‘bi-directional’: this means that there would be two adjacent tracks for cyclists, one in each direction. On other sections, there would be a single cycle track on each side of the road
Improved pedestrian crossings at a number of places to make it easier for people to cross the road
New trees and other improvements to make the area look and feel more pleasant, while also helping to adapt to climate change – e.g. trees provide shade from extreme heat in summer and reduce flooding. In addition, new ‘rain gardens’ and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) will be considered at the next phase of design, subject to feasibility
About this consultation
This is the first of two consultations we are holding on our proposals. In this first six-week consultation, we’d like to know your initial thoughts about the changes we plan to make. We will use your comments to help us develop our proposals.
There is a range of information available to explain our proposals in more detail, as follows:
Information about how we plan to assess the effects of our proposals, including how we have considered the effects of the proposals on disabled people and details of our current Equality Impact Assessment
We’ll hold a second consultation in 2023, asking for your thoughts about any changes we develop to the proposals. By then we’ll have more detailed proposals and a greater understanding of the effects of the changes. At this point, detailed traffic modelling data will be available, allowing for a full assessment of impact of the scheme on motor traffic including buses.
Please let us know if you have any questions that will help you respond to the consultation. We will then get back to you. Note this tool is not for responding to the consultation, please do that via the survey.
Please note that any questions you ask may be visible to others and will be subject to moderation. Any personal information will be kept confidential but your user name will be displayed. Further details on moderation are available here.
Questions asked may be publicly available after the consultation has closed and we may also include them in the form of a report on the results of the consultation exercise, but any personal information will be kept confidential. Your personal information will be properly safeguarded and processed in accordance with the requirements of privacy and data protection legislation.
