Kilburn Arches

We manage arches under the railway east and west of Kilburn station. The arches require investment to make them suitable to let to small and medium businesses.

We want to continue to provide space for small businesses while also making sure the arches better contribute to Kilburn and the High Road.

Following extensive engagement with former arch customers, local groups and the wider community, we submitted a planning application to improve Kilburn Mews, the 11 arches in close proximity to Kilburn London Underground station.

Next Steps

I am pleased to confirm that following engagement with the local community and submission of our planning application in September 2022, we have now received permission to proceed with the improvement of Kilburn Mews from Camden Council. We plan to invest in the Mews, restoring many arches to a usable condition while bringing in a range of different business uses and improving the public realm.

You can access the planning application at https://accountforms.camden.gov.uk/planning-search/ inputting Application Number 2022/3578/P.

We will continue to work with the local community throughout the project and into the future.

The history of Kilburn Arches

Kilburn station was opened in 1879 as Kilburn & Brondesbury station on the then Metropolitan Railway. The station is above ground and the tracks run along a viaduct supported by railway arches.

The legacy of the Metropolitan Railway can still be seen on the bridges outside Kilburn station crossing over the High Road, even though the station is served by the Jubilee line.

Kilburn Arches later became home to local businesses. Over 93 per cent of businesses in our arches across London are small businesses.

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded and the project team has commenced analysis of the responses. This will help shape the development of the project.

We are currently in the early stages of developing our proposals for Kilburn Arches. To assist us in this task we have developed a short survey for the local community and stakeholders to help us better understand the site and its surroundings so we can factor this in when developing our proposals. Comments that you provide will help the project team develop the proposals in line with local feedback.

Please note responses to the survey may be made publicly available after the engagement exercise has closed, this would typically be in the form of a report on the results of the engagement exercise, but any personal information will be kept confidential. Your personal information will be properly safeguarded and processed in accordance with the requirements of privacy and data protection legislation. What is the Kilburn Mews project?

Kilburn Arches will better contribute to the social life of Kilburn; reaching out to our communities by providing the mix of uses and activities they need. Our initial opportunity is the run of arches between Maygrove and Loveridge Road, owing to its proximity to the High Road. To differentiate this run from the rest of Kilburn Arches and for the purpose of the project, we call this space Kilburn Mews.

We believe that Kilburn Mews can be a lively and welcoming place with a diverse economy shaped by and for local communities. We want the space to be connected and accessible. This exhibition shows you how we have listened to the communities of Kilburn over the last year to develop proposals that meet your vision for the future of this unique space. If we receive planning permission, we will invest in the Mews, restoring many arches to a useable condition while bringing in a range of different business uses and improving the public realm.

We will continue to engage with the local community and we want your thoughts on what we have shown you in the exhibition. This will help us make final modifications to the scheme before we submit our proposals in summer 2022.
