Background and our updated plans for London Bridge and Borough High Street

During the summer of 2020, as part of our response to the coronavirus pandemic, we made temporary changes on London Bridge and along Borough High Street to make it easier for people to walk, cycle, use the bus and to help people to safely social distance. in early 2022, we decided to keep these changes as part of an experiment, to further test the scheme for up to 18 months.

During the summer of 2020, as part of our response to the coronavirus pandemic, we made temporary changes on London Bridge and along Borough High Street to make it easier for people to walk, cycle, use the bus and to help people to safely social distance. in early 2022, we decided to keep these changes as part of an experiment, to further test the scheme for up to 18 months.

Enhancements to Borough High Street

We have decided to consult on the changes for London Bridge and Borough High Street together as these locations are close to each other and the changes are complementary.

We have kept the temporary changes on London Bridge in place during the experimental period and we will be replacing the blue barriers which mark out the widened pavements in Borough High Street with semi-permanent materials - this comprises some new ‘bolt-on’ kerbs and asphalt which could be removed in future, if necessary. We will also be replacing line markings and signage. . These works will be taking place from 9 January 2023 to 28 April 2023. We have produced some images to show what the street might look like once these changes are finished which can be viewed above and below:
