Why we made these changes

The Park Lane scheme was delivered as a temporary emergency response to the coronavirus pandemic. As London continues to recover from the pandemic it will be more important than ever to support and encourage everyone who can to be more active. Active travel can make people healthier and happier, and it plays a part in managing and reducing congestion as well as improving our environment.

We introduced temporary pop-up cycle facilities to help improve safety for cyclists, making cycling easier providing an alternative to private cars or those who do not feel comfortable returning to public transport yet. The measures introduced will enhance cycling connectivity in the local area. These connections help reduce conflict between people walking and cycling within the alternative paths within Hyde Park.

You can read the full list of changes made in our Documents section.

What has happened so far

We have been monitoring the scheme since it was introduced. This includes the scheme’s effects on traffic flow, road safety and cycling and walking rates. We have also asked people for their views on the scheme. We are using this information to help inform what we do next.

Listening to you

Although we are not currently undertaking a formal consultation on this scheme, we would like to know about your experiences of it. If you have any comments about the effects of our scheme, or suggestions for changes or improvements we might make, please let us know by completing the Survey, emailing us at haveyoursay@tfl.gov.uk or using the Questions tool below.

We want to make sure Park Lane works for as many people as possible. That’s why it’s important we listen to local people and take on board their views. We are committed to engaging continuously with the local community. So far, we have:

  • Written to people to explain the next steps with many of the schemes we introduced as part of our response to the pandemic. We are now reviewing the schemes to decide what we’d like to retain. (August 2021)
  • Updated the local community on construction (October 2021)

If we decide to introduce the permanent scheme as originally planned, or retain the existing temporary scheme, we will consult with you.

Ask us a question

You can use this tool to ask us a question about the scheme or the upcoming consultation. We will then aim to get back to you.

Please note that any questions you ask may be visible to others and will be subject to moderation. Any personal information will be kept confidential but your user name will be displayed. Further details on moderation are available here and privacy here.
