The purpose of the scheme
The Canada Water Masterplan is a transformational plan to develop the area of land between Surrey Quays and Canada Water station. It is a partnership between British Land, Southwark Council and the local community and aims to create an outstanding new town centre for Southwark complements the local area, making an active, positive, long-term contribution to local life. It aims to provide jobs, homes, offices, public spaces and facilities at Canada Water.
To support the Masterplan, we will be upgrading Surrey Quays station by:
Providing a new Northern station entrance and ticket hall on Lower Road
Linking to Surrey Quays Place, a new and attractive public realm space which will connect the new station entrance with the wider Canada Water Development
Constructing a new footbridge to link the new entrance and ticket hall with the existing station entrance
Providing lifts to both platforms to enabling step-free access from the street
Please view the maps and drawings from the menu to the right to see what the upgraded station will look like.

That is a positive change and makes it easier for more people to travel more with confidence including building a new entrance for all local residents and commuters to travel to and from work in that area. 👍👍👍

This is a general comment - We also need a new station serving the area between Surrey Quays and Greenwich by the river, there's no train/overground there, and only one bus (199) whose service is very poor and ends in Canada Water.

Outside Surrey Quays station there are abandoned/broken bikes that have been there for ages, occupying space. Can we please have more space for bikes and also lifts in the station?

Every station should have public toilets, or it ends with public urinating and it creates health safety problems + we need trains to be actually running otherwise who needs a brand new station lol.

I use the station regularly and it is far too small for the amount of people who use it and the accessibility is awful. There needs to be better access to and from the platforms.

It would be really nice to see improved cycle storage facilities and more cycle docks in the area north of new cross to keep it better connected and the new cycleways network better utilised.

As a regular user of Surrey Quays and a disabled people, we need to have lifts installed for disabled people, parents with buggies and luggage. Even staff at the station have agreed there should be lifts. This will avoid me having to go all the way to Canada Water station to come back on myself when using the Overground.

Very pleased to see the planned development at Surrey Quays, particularly step-free access as the current stairs are treacherous in wet weather, and are narrow Agree that toilet facilities would be advantageous

This is a very lovely scheme that carries my full support. However, level boarding onto the train rather than via a manual ramp is important for the mobility of wheelchair users, and currently the plan only enables step-free access from the street onto the platform. There will still be a step onto the train that requires staff to deploy a ramp. Is it possible to raise a section of the platform, to enable full level boarding onto the train?
I also echo the other comments on here about the provision of toilets at the station.

Love the plans except I think toilet facilities would be a nice essential. Especially considering the trains themselves don't have toilets.

SQ station upgrade is positive. Hopefully it will help relieve the current congestion at CW and provide access to the Overground and tube for the residents of the new developments at Convoys Wharf and Millwall. It is to be hoped that Surrey Canal Station will be built in the not too distant future.

Station estimated in 2019-20 by ORR to be 105th-busiest in Britain, and 15th-busiest London Overground-managed, in need of this welcome capacity expansion and step-free accessibility for future growth and customer expectations. On behalf of Railfuture London & South East regional branch
